Apple Dashboard a harbinger of things to come?

An anonymous commenter had an interesting thought after reading David Every's musings on Dashboard:

"Maybe Dashboard is going to be part of an environment where a smaller OS can only run Dashboard widgets?
Looks to me as if this Dashboard is the UI for some new class of device, and MacOSX is the testbed."

Hmmmm....
